PhD students can apply for the interruption of programme attendance in the event of:
- Maternity, paternity and parental leaves
- Medical leave
- Civilian service
- Formative and active traineeship (TFA - Tirocinio Formativo Attivo) for teachers’ training
- Documented serious personal or family reasons
- In any other event foreseen by the legislation in force.
The application – provided with a revenue stamp of € 16.00 – shall be submitted to the PhD Unit - Unità Dottorati di Ricerca, along with appropriate supporting documents.
In the event of serious personal/family reasons, the interruption:
- shall not be automatically granted, but subject to the PhD Council assessment;
- the interruption (interruption extension included) shall not exceed 12 months throughout the whole PhD programme duration.
Rules on interruptions are set out in Section II of “Procedure e termini relativi alle carriere degli iscritti ai corsi di dottorato, specializzazione, master e formazione Insegnanti”, as well as in Article 16 of the PhD Regulation of the University of Pisa.
During the interruption students cannot perform any educational or training activity, which will be otherwise considered as invalid.
The educational period cannot be reduced. Students resuming their studies shall fully recover the period of interruption, and postpone the PhD programme duration, the annual assessment and the final exam.
